Hi, Linux newbie here, so bare with me.
Been using the latest stable release of Debian for about 2 weeks now. After researching some issues, I found that there were some KDE programs that could help me. So I decided to try a KDE version of Debian that I found here:http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde3.html. I downloaded the iso from the link: Download KDE CD for Debian testing "Lenny" i386. Installation went fine. Problem: I'm trying to add an online repository to the KPackage Manager. Anything I try to add gives me an error stating "Cannot resolve host". I tried using the same repository that was being used by regular Debian listed in the Synaptics Package Manager and a few off the net with no luck. What could I be doing wrong? Could some one please post the link they are using? Or maybe some other suggestions for this problem? Update: After hours of searching, I have a guess that maybe my user is not being granted super user access, which is strange because I only created one user during Debian w/KDE installation process. How do I check this/give my user this? I tried using KUsers, but it couldn't write the file changes (Probally because I don't have accesss).

Any linux installation creates the 'root' user, so there must be a
user named root and debian setup creates this superuser during installation. if you submit on cmd-line (konsole) the command (without the '$' char) $id root you get: uid=0(root) gid=0(root) Groups=0(root) If not reinstall your debian .. and take care to follow the instructions to install the root (superuser) login. you have to login as root to install packages, normally if you press ALT+F2 you get the kde command excution line, and if you type there 'synaptic' and press the execution button. A window should get opened whery the root password is requested.
