Reordering the Grub menu startup

Fri Mar 27, 2009 5:52 pm
Kubuntu 4.1.4
SONY laptop VAIO VGN NS105N

I am trying out Kubuntu for the first time.
I am familiar with Ubuntu.
My first problem, of many, is this:
I have a three O.S. consisting of Windows XP Pro, Ubuntu 8.10, and Kubuntu 4.1.4.
The GRUB menu has the Kubuntu O.S. as the default boot.
I want Ubuntu 8.10 to be the default boot.
I have tried to change the "menu.list" but haven't been able to do that, since I don't know the equivalent command for "gksudo nautilus", which allows me to enter, change and save the menu.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can try kdesu texteditor, for example kdesu kwrite.

The default choice is numbered in menu.lst; you need to change the number - remembering, I think, that GRUB counts from 0. No need to change anything else in menu.lst.
