hello :)

After upgrade to 4.2.3 I experienced bigger consumption of the cpu. In a normal state of usage X reaches about 50 per cent and even more sometimes. The difference is such big that I am not able to run Virtualbox with Windows XP any more - the whole desktop freezez after a while.

My distro is Gentoo and I have the Radeon Xpress 200 graphic card (propriatory drivers).

hope you help me :)

regards,
Wojtek

Here's a couple of suggestions:

- Do you have mouse tracking in KWin's plugins enabled? If so, disable it and see if that makes a difference. if not:
- Please try to remove the Plasma widgets one by one (backup your config first) and see if one of those widgets makes a difference in CPU usage. If you find the offending plasmoid, check bugs.kde.org if it already has been reported, if not, please file a new bug so developers can take care of it

hi sebas and thanks for a swift feedback :)

I've had taken your advice and here are my observations:

* I didn't have the mouse tracking enabled
* I've removed all plasmoids one by one and haven't notice any interesting things
* I was watching usage of cpu when kwin effects are enabled and:
** while moving a single window and having wobbly windows enabled I noticed that even small movement makes cpu usage higher and higher - even up to 75 per cent!

As I told after removing all plasmoids and disabling plasma effects I was able to run Virtual box with Windows XP and the Photoshop run on it.

So I can't tell you any particular things cause I don't know the reason of higher consumption. Maybe my drivers are affected? As I remember there was the problem with high consumption of cpu with some drivers previously and I was repaired.

I can also tell you that there was no problem in KDE 4.2.1 (I didn't install 4.2.2 one).

Anyway thanks for a reply. I'll try to watch the cpu usage.

Any ideas are appreciated of course.

cheers,
Wojtek :)
