Are there any repositories for KDE svn in Debian? Many of the improvements in KDE 4.2 are new features so I expect some crashes but not many. Is it usable?

There are not Debian repositories with KDE 4.2 by now. If you want try new KDE you can compile yourself. It isn't hard to do In Wiki KDE is good tutorial.

As svn are the sources, they are the same for every distro, see http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started
You shouldn't use svn for production use. It can break every now and then, as commits are coming in every time. See the commit forum here, it has a small overview of the commits to svn. Maybe just wait a few months, 4.2 is not far from now. |

What I am looking for is packages created from trunk. I know i can compile it but I do not like installing non packaged software so always create packages for it (or scripts that automatically generate packages from repositories.). But doing this for all KDE is too much for one person.

Hi Brainsqueezer, is this what you are looking for: http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/experimental.html ?

Experimental doesn't have svn packages I don't think. They'll probably package 4.2 alpha 1 when it comes out though.
The Kubuntu Ninjas packaging team plans to make 4.2 alpha1 available through some venue once it's released too. (Which is in about a week) |

Just read this on the blog of the 4.1 backport maintainer for Debian: the first beta of 4.2 and possibly other beta releases will not be packaged in backports or experimental.
I do hope Debian will offer KDE 4.2 a bit prematurely, the RC might be a good opportunity to offer the packages.

Anyone having any experience trying this?

I've just installed them. The FAQ isn't lying, you should have experience using apt-get and not rely solely on Synaptic or any other GUI package manager. Some packages give conflicts with other already installed packages, so you'll have to do some shuffling (e.g. remove the conflicting packages first, install the new and reinstall the removed ones again).
I now have KDE 4.2 up and running on Debian 5.0 and it's looking great!
