Hey I have given Fedora 11 (KDE) beta a try and the new Kubuntu.. but as I have an ATI card (512mb X1600) in my laptop the new XRenderer is really messing things up and crashing my system SOO.. I was thinking about moving back to either Fedora 10 or the old Kubuntu. The question is are the special effects transferable? What I mean is when you go into the settings you can change desktop effects.. cube, magic lamp, exploding windows etc etc.. is it possible to take a file from either the new Kubuntu or Fedora 11 beta and copy it then when I install Fedora 10 or the old Kubuntu could I paste it into a folder and then have access to that effect? I am guessing it would depend on the particular effect.. all I want to copy over is the "magic lamp" effect when you minimise windows to tray.
If this isnt possible how would I go about getting a compatible version for the older versions of the OS's and how would I install them? Folder locations etc.. I am still kinda new to Linux so try and make it as simple as possible for my little brain to understand hahaha cheers |

Hi,
short answer: I don't know the file and haven't looked for it. Instead I'd copy the whole ~/.kde(4) folder HTH

but wouldn't that copy over the new KDE version AND pull over the XRenderer as well? The very thing thats messin my system up in the first place? *unsure*

Try removing the configuration file $(kde4-config --localprefix)/share/config/kwinrc outside of a KDE session.
