I installed Zenwalk Linux, and right now I'm downloading and installing a complete KDE 4.2.1 desktop, along with a mess of development libraries and non-kde applications, using Zenwalk's Netpkg utility.
You always want the latest, and if everything installs okay, I'm wondering how dicey it would be to upgrade KDE packages from source within the 4.2 family. What happens if I simply grab the 4.2.4 packages that I want to upgrade, and install them from source, mixing them willy-nilly with 4.2.1 packages? Can I expect no snags, a few minor snags or do I risk breaking my whole system? Is there a better way to proceed?

There should be really no problem, since no new features are permitted in bugfix releases ( 4.2.x in this case )
There is also the commitment to binary and source forwards and backwards compatibility between bugfix releases also I believe. ( So you could use the KDELibs from 4.2.0 and Plasma from 4.2.2 safely )

 Thanks, stranger! If problems crop up, I will report them as bugs. |
