Ok, this is more or less my last bug here;
When I was testing KDE 3.5, the battery meter was capable of reading my battery. Other then Puppy Dog Linux, that was the only time my battery was read. Any other DE, any other battery meters cannot read said battery. Simply stating that none exists. Quite annoying. At the same time, Strigni is refusing to index for probably the same reason Beagle and Tracker have refused in the past; because I am, according to them, on battery, and thus will not scan my system. So, three questions. 1. What detection methods were used by KDE 3.5 that arent used anymore by most battery meters? 2. Is there anyway I could get 3.5's meter onto 4.2? 3. How can I alter the settings of Strigni and force it to scan? My laptop is an Asus X50GL. Probably also worth noting that every distribution I've tried, when it comes to shut-down, will only unload itself and will be unable to turn the laptop off (I'm just left with a blank screen) Don't know if it's related, could possibly be because any such problems with the battery system would probably muddle up the termination of said system. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

You being on one of the ubuntus, I'd check the ubuntu forum for your laptop. Here is what I came up with (the shutdown problem).

I believe in System Settings > Advanced > Desktop Search a setting is available to make it index even when on battery power.

Ok, about the battery;
The reason Kubuntu 8.04 (LTS) worked with it was because of the older kernal (had nothing to do with the battery meter) To fix this, either I recompile the kernal with a patch, or turn off the fan (which seems to be causing conflicts within this type of motherboard) neither of which I'm rather looking forward to.
