I am using the LinuxMint 7 KDE CE Release Candidate and need some help understanding a problem with icons. For example all of the icons in CCSM show up as question marks. There are other applications as well with question marks instead of icons...
Is there a way to resolve this? Would installing the gnome-icon-theme package resolve this? I am at a total loss as how to resolve this. Can someone help me to solve this in simple steps? I am not that familiar with KDE 4 and could really use some guidance. |

By CCSM I guess you are referring to the Compiz Control Settings Manager? Which other applications are affected?
Installing the GNOME icons will likely resolve the problem, if it does, please report it to your distribution as a packaging bug. |

Thank you for the quick response! I have installed the gnome-icon-theme package and all of the Compiz packages. Compiz Config Settings Manager has all of the icons on my system. I have asked one of the effected users to confirm that this fixes the problem.
I am trying to help the maintainer of this edition to have an outstanding KDE release. I think that KDE 4.2.4 is a very solid release and I think many more will feel the same when this release goes final. Thank you so much for your help! I appreciate your taking the time to answer my question. |

Adding the gnome-icon-them fixed all of the icons but one that does not show up if I change icon themes. Just the mintUpdate icon appears as a question mark in the Kickoff menu when I change icon themes. Where does KDE 4.2.4 store it's default icons?

Usually /usr/share/icons I think. Then you have ~/.kde/share/icons (kde or kde4) for your user.

Just in case anyone else finds themselves in the same situation, the default or fall back icons go into the /usr/share/icons/hicolor folder.
