I have another icon related question about KDE 4.2.4. When I right click on the Desktop Folder to get the drop down list, select Create New, the following have question marks instead of icons: Illustration Document, Presentation Document, Spread Sheet Document and Text Document.
I am using a Kubuntu 9.04 base with OpenOffice 3.0.1. My file associations are working but I do not know how to fix the icons and associations in the drop down box. Does anyone know how to correct this? This is really a small issue but I have been trying to eliminate having question marks where icons are supposed to be. |

It's a problem with the ooo templates, typically the templates are in /usr/share/templates.

Thanks medo3891! That gives me a starting point for fixing this. I would like to fix all of the missing icons to give KDE 4 a more finished look and feel.I have found question marks for icons in every release I have looked at and I think correcting this would sway more people over to using KDE as their desktop environment. These little finishing touches in my opinion, make a difference.

I got rid of the question marks! I looked at how this issue was dealt with in KDE 3x and found the offending items in "Create New" did not exist. I removed the office related items that had the question marks because they simply were not going to work right with OpenOffice and they really are not needed anyway. I gave the two devices that had question marks icons because they will work and should have an icon in the drop down list.
I really appreciate the information that led to the solution for this! I think it is important for this type of issue to be addressed so that KDE 4 system do not appear incomplete or unfinished. I hope that others can benifit from this information. Every KDE 4 based distribution seems to have icon issues and this fixes one more issue as far as finishing touches. |
