Hi,

I am running Kde 4.3 with the upcoming Kubuntu 9.10.
I've noticed several missing features from vanilla Kde:
- missing nepomuk searchbar in dolphin
- missing black board, blank desktop and clutted destop plugins for the desktop
- missing download and install of google gadgets

Does somebody has the same issues? Are there possibilities to fix them?

Try to right-click on the toolbar and select the "toolbars" sub-menu. Is "search toolbar" there, and if so is it enabled or disabled?

Sorry, I'm not sure what these are.

That is normally in the "Add New Widgets" dialog, under install new widgets. Are you sure the necessary application is installed?

What are those? I assume blank desktop might be what Suse calls "Plain desktop", that is: a desktop without the plasma toolbox. And cluttered desktop may be the folderview. Please elaborate. Blackboard is still in playground AFAIK and would be unlikely to be installed by default, although could be compiled yourself.

Hm, if I remember correctly the (K)ubuntu devs thought the google-gadgets-for-plasma wasn't mature enough to be included.

Blackboard, isn't that the new plasmoid (containment?) that lets you draw on your desktop? As far as I know, it's still in playground: http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/playground/ ... lackboard/

You might also find this topic about Google Gadgets in 4.2 useful.

Google Gadgets - can't they be dl'ed directly from Google ? http://code.google.com/p/google-gadgets ... loads/list though not a deb it's installable. I would think there's packages out there if not official, have you google'd?

If this is a biggy you might consider a diff. distro

Thx for all replies.
Have a look at this review:
http://polishlinux.org/kde/kde-43-early-preview/

Under the topic "A Hundred and one desktop styles" you can see the plugins I mentioned.

Nepomuk search bar: I have an empty entry in dolphin's "toolbars" selection. Activating it results in a second empty toolbar. Obviously Kubuntu didn't build the featuare I would say.

Can we please push the Kubuntu devs for this? Pretty please?

Failing that, can we hurt them? xD
