My computer is a bit old ... I have used kde 3.5 with it with no problem.. im just want to know if I can
install kde 4. my OS is debian testing/squeeze

The main problems are usually related to memory or graphics cards. How much / which one of these do you have?

If using NVidia or ATi, you should upgrade to the latest drivers available from their websites.

im not sure with the graphics.. but im pretty sure its low

in 3.5 its fine though .. it is still fast

Well from my experience, at least you need 512MB ram.
KDE 4 can run with < 512MB ram,but when you start firefox for example,it's start swapping everything.

also is recommended to disable strigi desktop file indexer.

for your graphics card,please check it first, im using cheap graphics card (via chrome9), but still capable running kde without desktop effect.
