Hi,
Im trying to compile KDE 4.3.1 from source on mdv 2008.1. I read the website and installed all of the devel files recommended except lib-gift devel which i couldnt find. Is that a problem? On the talk page on techbase, i read a post which said that the user had been able to compile kdelibs without it and that it was "useless anyway". I read the package README and it tells me that ive to install kdelibs and kdebase at a minimum.. In confused with something.. Once ve done both, will a KDE4 entry come automatically to my kde3.5 session manager? Regards Soumen |

Which KDEModule are you trying to build? If you are trying to build the entire of KDE, start with installing qt4-devel at the minimum. The kdesvn-build script can assist with the remainder, and will build KDE in the correct order.

Hello,
That will be difficult because i got the sources from a friend and i dont have the spped required to download the kde sources here which will need to be done if the build script is used. If i install the source modules i got (all of them from kde.org/download), will the menu entry appear on its own? also is libgift essential for compilation? Regards Soumen |

Which modules have you downloaded?
The build order is: KDESupport -> KDELibs -> KDEPIMLibs -> KDEBase -> everything else

You can either upgrade to 2009.1 and get KDE4.3.x from Helio's unofficial repo: ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/4.3.1/Mandriva/README
Or wait till 2010.0 is released http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2010.0_Deve ... d_delivery it's scheduled for release on the 3rd of next November, which will include kde4.3.2. Unless of course you want to learn how to package kde4 yourself. |

KDESupport is also stored in KDE SVN, but outside the trunk/KDE tree, so is not available as a tarball.
