It isnt so much a pop-up error as it is a kind of "damn thing isnt even doing anything!"

I connect my TV to my laptop via HDMI. Using the NVIDA graphics tool, I set up TwinView (which turns one of the virtual desktops onto the TV)

This works...sort of, the screen resolution is off, but I think thats the graphics card not being able to adapt to it...

Anyway, no matter where the scale is on the audio HDMI output device, I simply dont hear anything (and yes, I'm pressing the 'test' button as well, nothing!)

:/

I think the mplayerthumbs issue is due to KDE 4.3's code to create previes on folders, rather then files...

Your sure the Kubuntu Restricted Extras package is installed AND the DVD decoder was downloaded and installed? (not trying to be insulting, simply trying to cover all the steps)

Kaffeine or VLC might serve you better then. If you'd prefer something a bit more modern in KDE land, I can give you a link to a PPA to install Bangrarang.

So everything, including the aslamixer in the konsole?

Odd.

Hmmmm....

I'll think about your problem, meanwhilst;

Yes, Kubuntu is not exactly known for being the jewel of KDE land. If your looking for something along the lines of Kubuntu but...well, known for working out of the box, I suggest two options;

The Linux Mint 8 KDE Community edition. It's about a month old, and the Mint community is known for it's do or die attitude...just about every problem there is fixed.

and Epedemic Linux, which is basically like Mint, but with a few tweaks (Compiz instead of KWin, etc)

I hope so, Project TIMELORD should of made itself into something by now :P

I will admit, however, that I'm still nervous about what they've broken THIS time around (sorry if that seems pessimistic, but the last release did take me AGES to fix...)

Can you tell me how to change this? I also have two soundcards and can't make flash sound work in firefox under kde.

Thanks in advance!

@toshiro: By default ( last time I checked ) with a DMix system, Flash opens /dev/dsp. With Pulseaudio the output device used depends on Pulseaudio.
