Booting KDE 4.x in Ubuntu 9.10

OK ... I installed the kdebase packages , but editing .xsession or .xinit
files wont boot the KDE enviroment . there is a desktop enviroment selector
on the login screen of ubuntu but KDE is not a choice .

what should I do ??

You may wish to check what you have installed aganist the kubuntu-desktop meta package.
