Problems with KDE 4.3.4

Sun Dec 20, 2009 5:15 pm
Hi all,
I'm not sure if here is the right place to post this. Please let me know if it should be moved somewhere else.

I'm using Kubuntu 9.10 (installed from zero in october) and until December I was using KDE 4.3.3 and everything worked just fine (I mean fast, no bugs, ...).
In December I updated my system to KDE 4.3.4, which is supposed to fix many bugs, but actually my system is now really buggy.
The main problem is with Dolphin, which has gone REALLY slow (I have to wait almost 30 seconds until what I have clicked get really clicked). Despite of it I have plasma crashes all the time.

I was wondering if it's not nopomuk fault, because I made some tests with it (I didn't like it very much and I've disabled it), but now sometimes the process nepomukservicestub starts consumming 100% of one of my two cores.

If someone knows the origin or how to solve this problems, or even is getting the same (cause I've googled it and I've found nothing like this), I'd appreciate some pointers (cause I'm really thinking about formatting everithing and installing it again).

Thanks

Can you reproduce the problems with a new user?

Hi bcooksley,
it doesn't produce any output.

Actually it does not always take so long. I mean, it works fine for some seconds and then takes a long time to answer (not only when I click, but also when I move the mouse it doesn't update the hover). Then it works for more seconds (actually few seconds, like 10 or 20) ok and takes a long time to anwer again. The time it takes to answer is also variable. Usually it's not that much, but enough to be annoying (just like 5~10 seconds). But there are times when it takes long to respond.

Today I had one more plasma crash and I had a complete freeze on my system (I had to reboot it, because neither the virtual terminals (ctrl + f1) nor the altgr + printscreen + k worked.

Ah, I remembered now another problem really annoying I'm having (and this is not only with kde 4.3.4, but also with the 4*). Sometimes, neither desktop (I use folder view) nor dolphin updates the content of folders. I have to press F5. It happens all the time (but not always), when for example I use ark. I have to use ark and press F5 to view what I've extracted.
And with Desktop is WORSE. Sometimes it just DOESN'T appear. If I open dolphin it appears, but not in desktop (even pressing F5)! I have to reboot my computer to view on desktop my stuff. (perhaps this should be another thread)

Hans: I'm sorry, I'm really occupied today
I'll try to test it tomorrow or tuesday. Thanks for your reply

Thanks

Hi,
It's very strange.
It doesn't produce any output when I call dolphin, but when I close it, it produces:

kDebugStream called after destruction (from void KDirWatchPrivate::removeEntry(KDirWatch*, KDirWatchPrivate::Entry*, KDirWatchPrivate::Entry*) file ../../kio/kio/kdirwatch.cpp line 901)
Cancelled INotify (fd 10, 1) for "/home/leo/.local/share//user-places.xbel"

I hadn't realized it in the last post.

Thanks

Ok... do you see in the process list ( Alt + F2 > 2nd icon from the left ) anything like "nepomukserver" or "nepomukstub"?

Yes,
I have here one nepomukserver and 4 nepomukservicestub, but now in specific none of them is consuming lots of resources (each one is with 2~4mb).

If you know how to, I suggest running strace on Dolphin to see where it is hanging.
