Hey all, just tried out the RC of Kubuntu; I'm a tad worried;

My netbook can boot it, my friend's laptop can boot it, but mine can't.

It freezes during the loading of 'K' on the splash screen, the K becomes partially 'unfuzzed' then my fans go mad.

I seriously need help here, I hope that my laptop has not been discarded :( yet I have no way of knowing what to do!

I don't know if it helps but you can check the logs if there is some useful information there. The problem may be caused by your graphics drivers, KWin's compositing or X settings. What is your hardware configuration? Are the all drivers installed properly?

Ah, I neglected to mention this was a LiveUSB enviroment. :P

I've had some problems with other distros complaining of USB's in the past....

I would switch to console mode when the system is booting and check /var/log because it sounds to me like a problem with the graphics drivers. Another option is to try LiveCD and see if the same problem occurs or just wait for the final release ;)

Well..it's still happening :(

Apparently it's got something to do with the new open-source driver for Nvida cards...I have NO IDEA how to kill it. Please, somebody, help!

Have you tried booting in failsafe mode?

I got my family's Linux guru to have a look at it, apprarently it was the new nouevou driver not fully loading due to a glitch of my hardware.

Blacklisting the driver did not work, as the init file was hard-coded to run it.

I sucesfully got around it by upgrading from 9.10 with NVIDA binary driver active.
