Bluetooth mouse lags

Wed Jun 02, 2010 2:11 am
I have now bought a new computer and installed openSUSE 11.2 and upgraded to KDE 4.4.3. All my bluetooth devices now work as expected which is excellent.

My only complaint is that every now and again, my bluetooth mouse gets very slow - it can lag behind actual movement by about 4-5 seconds. It makes it very difficult to precisely position the cursor.

If I leave it alone for a minute or 2 it then works well again.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to correct this?

Topic split. This could possibly be caused by the bluetooth adapter becoming busy or encountering interference, and therefore unable to shift data fast enough.

Re: Bluetooth mouse lags  Topic is solved

I have managed to get it responding much better. I moved my computer from the left side of my desk to the right (closer to the mouse). That significantly reduced the number of times that I got the slow mouse response.

Then I noticed that when I was still getting a poor response was when I had put my mobile phone on the desk near to the mouse. So clearly the phone (when transmitting) was interfering with the Bluetooth transmission.

Problem solved.

I have this issue as well, except that my laptop is quite close to my mouse (new MS Sculpt Comfort Mouse), about 50 cm away. Things are completely smooth when I disable any 2.4 Ghz wifi band, so I suppose the interference is there. But I'm surprised at how bad it is.

You might want to investigate using a newer kernel - in some cases wireless/bluetooth drivers have been updated to improve their co-operation on use of frequency to minimize collisions and interference. You could also try changing the wireless network channel if you are able to.
