lucid in infinite loop during boot up. It will not go into GUI after entry of password. However, it will go to command line.

I am locked out of linux completely and need help resolving this problem. lucid is a new upgrade, and each time I upgrade, something like this always happens. Each time I had to erase and re-install each upgrade.

Please try creating a new user and logging in as that user.

how do you create a new user and account?

I cannot get into the program and tried unsuccessfully several times to use different screen names and passwords. The program is hung up at thelogin screen and today I could not even get a command line.

Please give me command line coding and I will see what I can do.

Thank you...

It sounds like you installation has been broken by a failed upgrade. Please login on a terminal and ensure the update has been completed ( sudo apt-get distupgrade )
