Hey all. Little old me again!
Anyway, I thought I'd give Kubuntu 10.10 a spin, but I do have a problem with the new xorg nouvou system which is causing my laptop problems. Anyway, my question is; can I load/install an OS into virtualbox, install software on it (in this case, the offical Nvidia binary drivers) and create an installable .iso from that? I'm interested in getting ahold of Kubuntu again, but I DO need to find some way of equipping it with the NVidia driver :/ Thanks in advance! -Dante

confused I am - why can't you just install the binary drivers once you install Kubuntu? Why do you need to create an installable cd with the NVIDIA binary drivers? Doesn't there exist a repository that has the drivers? What can you do in VBox that you can't do on your laptop?

The problem is to do with the Nouvou xorg driver, which is an open source replacement for the NVIDIA driver. My main computer does not like it and cannot boot any system with it (due to a bug that I'm currently trying to track down)
Sadly without it, I'm a bit stuffed :/

what if you dl'ed the non-livecd version of Kubuntu (don't remember what it's called), do an install, boot into safe mode and work from there using the cmd line?

That'd be brilliant...if only I actually knew how to use the command line here :/

wouldn't these be the commands you'd need to execute? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Binar ... wto/Nvidia
earlier you said "... does not like it and cannot boot any system with it", what other livecd's did you try? |

Fedora, which also comes with the same driver. Other distros are getting that driver shortly, I think.
I've tried creating a backup ISO from Remastersys..but the program does not copy propietary drivers :/

try forcing vesa graphics drivers at boot https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions
an other option, again with command line, is to in the boot process switch to the generic vesa drivers an example http://duopetalflower.blogspot.com/2009 ... ve-cd.html |

You know, I've been looking on and off how to solve this problem for 7 months..and not one person suggested VESA...I've never even heard of it. But lo and behold, it's working!
Thank you so much!
