I am running kernel 2.6.34, but if I do a "dist-upgrade," it's going to install 2.6.32. How do I stop this from happening? Or will it simply not effect my using the 2.6.34 kernel?
I have to dist-upgrade because for reasons I don't understand, KDE is holding back a buttload number of updates for various packages and the only way around that is dist-upgrade. thanks. |

Which distribution are you using?
Note, that though there are plenty of people who may be able to assist, this kind of a question is very dependent on the distribution you are using. I would suggest that you post this question on the distribution's forums to ensure that you get the specific advise that you need. When you start the dist-upgrade does it list the 2.6.34 kernel among the packages to be removed? If it doesn't list the kernel among the packages to be removed then it is safe to assume that it will still be available after the upgrade (you can also double-check your bootloader config after the install to be sure).

Well, I did sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and all seems to have gone well. Thanks.
