hello ... I'm new
I just recently got kde working on my ubuntu system (took me a while to get internet because of a check box called "allow this network for all users in gnome) I installed kde using the kbuntu packages anyways when I start up kde all of the graphics effects and desktop compositioning are turned off. To turn them on I have to go into System settings --> appearance --> and click on the widget style drop down box (which says oxygen) reselect oxygen, press apply, and then all of my effects are back. Is there any way to get the effects to turn on automatically when I start up? I am running kubuntu 10.04 with kde 4.(something above 3) I am on a system 76 pangolin performance with an ati card using ati mobility drivers. sorry about the lots of text, thanks in advanced for any help.

Please check the content of ~/.xsession-errors. Does it hint at any reason why Desktop Effects or the Oxygen style could not be used?

Unfortunately the log doesn't indicate why it doesn't work properly for you. Does it work under a new user?
