Hello its me...
My KDE box has been working well for a month now but today I start it up... login... Goes though the splash screen.... Then I loads the desktop... and then it crashes... No icons menus sidebars, or anything plasma related works... I can move the mouse, control alt delete to get the logoff menu (which does work), control alt f1 to get to command, and a simple colck program I have start up automatically on login loads, but I cant interact with it... Everything was working just fine yesterday, I don't know what is wrong.. btw.. gnome still works flawlessly... (that is how I am posting) thanks for any help

If you press "Alt + F2" after having logged in, does a small window pop down at the top of the screen? If it does, try running "Konsole" using it. Once Konsole opens, try running "plasma-desktop &" and see if it crashes somewhere.
In particular, try running "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental" to fix any crashes. Have you recently performed any updates or installed any themes/applets? Has your system been shutdown incorrectly?

Under KDE were any messages given after running "plasma-desktop" your Plasma configuration may be corrupted.
Try moving ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop* elsewhere.

It worked! Thanks!
(kinda serves me right for the ridiculous config I had earlier)
