Hi to all
Sorry for my english. I have a problem with two hotkey for increase/decrease luminosity of my laptop monitor. I set the hotkeys and they works fine but when i reboot i lost my personalization, and i'm forced to repeat the process. My system is ubuntu 10.10 with kde 4.6.1 and the machine is a toshiba satellite pro l300-29h. Thanks in advance for the answers. |

Where are you setting the personalized hotkey? In System Settings > Shortcuts & Gestures > Custom Shortcuts?

Yesterday i've try with global shortcuts,in the component "kde daemon" there are 2 voices (increase and decrease luminosity of screen) but the personalized shortcut is not stored in next reboot.
I partially solved the problem with custom shortcuts and the program xbacklight, for now i've creted 3 shortcuts for 0% luminosity,50%, 100%. In future i want to create 2 scripts for increase/decrease with xbacklight and associate 2 custom shortcuts in the appropriate section. Here is a screenshot: http://upload.centerzone.it/viewer.php? ... 712723.png of creted shortcuts. |

For the Global Shortcuts issue, I would recommend checking the permissions in ~/.kde4/share/config and ensure that all files are readable and writable by your user.
If you can reproduce under a new user, please file a bug report at bugs.kde.org.

In this folder i have permission of read/write in all files, some files have the permissions in this format:
it's normal? i see execution permission for all users. However i completely solved the problem with 2 options of xbacklight program: the option -inc and -dec that increase and decrease the luminosity of a percentual that is passed as argument of command. Is enough set two personalized hotkeys for this two commands:
I think is a good solution in the laptops where are not recognized the fn-fx keyboard shortcuts.
i must create a new user and try to modify this files in my account? |

Those permissions are fine, as they are directories (where the x permission indicates the ability to enter the folder, and cross through it to other directories)
Interesting that XBacklight works fine, as I believe KDE mechanisms use X infrastructure to change the brightness. Just wondering, does running that command cause the OSD to display?

osd don't appear, i think that this program use randr for manage the brightness, infact i tried it in others desktop environment and works fine (always without osd).
However i think that it's possible to associate an osd notify when run the command, will investigate in future thanks for support. edit: It's simple to add a notification of percentual that we set : in the screenshot there is a simple script that set the brightness and show percentage. |

Hello
I experience the same thing. I tried also with another new user kde session, with the same result (the shortcuts resets to default on every new session). I also saw than only affects the brightness Increase and Decrease brigthness hotkeys in kde daemon component, while changes in "display" hotkey persists after every session. Setting "none" or any other key combination causes a "reset to default" after startup. I think these options are saved in ~/.kde/share/config/kglobalshortcutsrc section [kded] When I exit from session these keys are saved, but resets to default when login again. I hope can be helpful. I can confirm this issue on kde-4.4.6.2a-0ubuntu5.1.
kglobalshortcutsrc is reset to default at kde login (rather than logout). |

I am having this issue also, with a fresh installation of 4.6.0. I cannot even delete kglobalshortcutsrc! Next time I log back in its still there with the original settings.
