Optimization

Fri Mar 25, 2011 5:17 am
Hello,

I have some specific questions about how I can improve my desktop.
Running: Kubuntu 10.10 (dual boot with win 7), KDE 4.6, Toshiba netbook (10.1" screen) 2X 1.66Ghz, 2Gb RAM. I am using "Netbook mode" only for plasma desktop.

How do I control volume mixer with my keyboard?
Do I have to write some code just to assign two volume controls?

How do I assign specific applications to specific activites?

Can I set up a keyboard command to cycle through activities, or use keyboard (numberpad for example) to go to specific activities.

All for now, thanks

You can set keyboard shortcuts in system settings -> shortcuts and gestures -> global keyboard shortcuts. You can set the volume control in the kmix section, and activity switching in the plasma section.

You can set volume controls for other sliders by clicking the kmix system tray icon, clicking "mixer", then right-clicking on the slider you want and selecting "configure shortcuts".

The veromix scripted plasma widget can show volume sliders from multiple volume controls if you are using pulseaudio, but it is somewhat buggy if you use it with amarok.

You can set applications to specific activities, but this is lost on reboot. This should work better in 4.7.
