I just installed kde-full a couple days ago using aptitude, like it so far but have a couple questions.
1) I have a Dell E5400 notebook with the Broadcom wireless card, how do I get it working? I used Linux Mint before, but this time installed KDE over a fresh install of debian squeeze. Wicd doesn't detect my network, iwconfig gives me this...
2) The notificatin tray tells me there are 245 updates available, but only has a "Later" button. I click all over it but have no idea how to download and install the updates. 3) Firefox and konkuer are slow, I hoped that updating the system might help. 4) I want to create an image/live CD of my installation once I get it the way I want it, but am having trouble getting remastersys or debian-live to install with aptitude. Says it is not in the repository. Anyway, i'm not new to linux itself, but I haven't messed with it in quite some time(Long before KDE) and it has changed quite a bit (For the better). My goal is to give my clients a user friendly alternative to Windows. I know these are alot of questions in one post and more may follow as time goes on, so much thanks in advance. |

1) just a guess as I'm not using Debian, there's should be some kind of broadcom driver packages(s) - in the *buntu's its broadcom-sta-common (?) http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/broadcom-sta-common
fyi - 2) & 4) aren't KDE related 2) you need to identify what sw in the system tray with the later button 3) define slow - dl speed, loading the sw, adding tabs, switching tabs? 4) if it says it's not in the repos you need to find where it is and dl the .deb or add the repo where it is PS - I'm moving this as it's not plasma related |

remastersys http://sourceforge.net/projects/remastersys/files/
debian-live http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/release/current-live/ (it's an iso, probably why it's not in a repo) "later button" http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=59264 |

2) The later button link was of no help unless I missed something, if i can't do the updates by clicking on them then I need to find a way to perform the updates manually. I don't simply want to get rid of the notify service, I want to perform the updates. Since the notificatin referes to KDE security updates, I believe it is KDE related. Not sure what "sw" is.
3) It downloads fine I think, but loads pages extremely slow. I'm using a direct connect cable atm, all other PC's in the home run fine off the same network, including the one in question when booted under Windows 7. I'll give 1 and 4 a shot, thanks |

2) don't use Debian, don't know what it is that your using but there is synaptic, kpackagekit or muon for gui package management and updating
3) start new thread under internet and networking, maybe install a widget/plasmoid to check the actual dl speed |
