Trying to report errors, but

Fri Nov 04, 2011 10:55 am
I'm getting a fairly regular crash under KDE and it seems to be related to KOrganizer.

However, whenever I try to fill in the dialogues to report it, it always tells me it's not helpful unless I include the debug symbols, and it offers to download them for me.

The debug symbols download is about 750Mb. I've now done it about half a dozen times! Every time I want to make a new report it tells me they have to be downloaded again. This is surely not right? But what to do about it?

Is this operating system specific? I'm not certain, but this seemed the best option.

I'm now certain this is linked to adding an event into KOrganizer. It happens every time I do this.

"It" is there is a crash dialogue generated.
I don't remember the text.
It asks me if I'd like to report the crash.
When I say yes it starts taking me through the dialogs.
It asks if I'll include symbols
I say yes
It says it has to download them. Even though I have downloaded them.
I cancel the operation at that point.

The KDE desktop is no longer working at this point. By that I mean that the menu, which I have as autohide on the left hand side of the screen, won't represent itself when I move the mouse to the left hand side.
The "change the settings" area in the top right of the screen doesn't produce anything when hovered over.
I can use any windows that are visible.
I can use Alt-Tab to switch between windows in the current workspace.
Since the menu won't appear I can't (or don't know how else to) switch between workspaces.

At this point, if I have a console window open, I can shutdown or restart, but otherwise the desktop is effectively unusable.

I could just stop using KOrganizer I suppose, but it makes more sense to stop using KDE since I need a diary.

How can I progress this situation, either by actually making a report or by sidestepping/preventing/fixing the issue? :'(
