I started using Kubuntu today, and I have this peculiar issue with all of my windows.

In advance I want to let you all know that I did in fact I try to setup an account at kubuntuforums.net but their registration practices are asinine, I kept failing the reg. process and I never found out why.

Anyhow, I as you can see from the included picture, my window borders are out of alignment. I don't know how to fix this, and I can't even think about how to structure a google search for this issue.

Please be kind. Hope you can help!

things to try:

- if enabled disable desktop effects systemsettings -> desktop effects -> general -> enable ..... or you can toggle them with ctrl+shift+F12
- if disabling effects fixes it then try just disabling the blur effect

- change your desktop theme systemsettings -> workspace appearance -> desktop theme

tried all of that...

i've tried changing themes but all themes are affected,

if i switch to xrender i get the same problem,

blur is already shut off..

i'm curiously wondering if it could be fixed in xorg. the text in the Title area is stretched as though it's fit for another resolution. i had to write my own xorg to get 1024x768 with the nvidia driver.

chaning resolutions doesn't change it. it might if i could push higher than 1024, but for some reason, linux and I have never been able to get 1280... never have a problem in windows, but linux has problems pushihng higher resolutions in my exp.

Modern distributions do not need xorg.conf, instead they use a collection of files.

1. What graphics card and driver are you using?
2. Did you compile the driver yourself or use a distribution-provided package?
3. What KDE version are you using?

howdy, thanks for the interest.

i am running an nvidia 5200fx, PCI, using the nvidia branded stock driver, 96 release w/96 update. the later release didn't operate well with my system so i rolled back to the older/earlier version.

i am running kubuntu, most recent build. from the kubuntu HP it says, "KDE Platform, Workspaces and Applications 4.7.3"

I've seen a similar thing when running the development version of Plasma Desktop (Nvidia FX5200 card). For me disabling composite (Shift+Alt+F12) and enabling it again fixes it. I saw that google01103 suggested this - if it still doesn't work for you, can you please post a screenshot with composite disabled?

howdy, i shut off compiz with the keybioard shortcut you mentioned, but it didn't seem to also turn it back on. included are screenshots of the compiz effects in XRender & OpenGL.

XRender,

XRender works, but takes away all the fun. Sorta like WinXP. :(

those are pretty old drivers for your card, you really should find a newer one that works even if you need to compile it yourself

Compiz is not a KDE product, you may find help here but you would be better off on the Compiz forums

yeah well, hopefully i'll get help here because at the Compiz Forums homepage, it's full of spam and garbage. pretty unprofessional, and quite unnerving to behold.

i'm really tired of creating new accounts all over the world.

further, there isn't even a place to click to start a new topic that I can see!

as for compiling my own driver, if i knew where to get the data to compile i'd give it a go. i've compiled in linux before. i'm willing to try it.

the v173 driver causes me to lose monitor support. i have twinview active and i get support to the TV but not the monitor, hence i have to stick with 96 unless someone wants to help me compile a XORG. me and xorg have a bad relationship between each other.
