I was wondering what forum to post in for help with my kde install. After updates today I have a black screen. There are 2 buttons on the black screen. The new activity button on the upper right and the dash board button on the left.My computer works as normal.I can bring up any program with alt+f2 and use it.It is just my desktop that is not right.Nothing kde shows up at boot just a black screen with the two buttons.I tried older kernals no help.different video drivers and did a complet reinstall and updates.black screen.Vlc and flash both play fine. This is in kde some where and I need some help tracking what went wrong here.I'm running kororaa 16[fedora 16 spin] 64 bit on an i7 core 4 gigs ram.Could some one please point me in the right direction? Thanks

Moved to Workspace.
Can you take a screenshot with KSnapshot and post here? Not sure what the dashboard button is. What happens if you right-click on the "desktop"? Can you run
in a terminal?

I did get the kde crash handler with a fault.I'm install debug sysmbols now.Crash handler said.
Executable: plasma-desktop PID: 1682 Signal: Segmentation fault (11) Application: Plasma Desktop Shell (plasma-desktop), signal: Segmentation fault. funny thing is I installed the gnome3 de for a normal de .I read I could do this from a post here. When the kde crash handler popped up the screen loaded(not the task bar)the only thing is it loaded the gnome wallpaper with the gnome icons,Computer, home, readme.pdf and trash.I figure I,ll try and fix this if I can and reload with just the kde and fix the black screen and I should be good to go.I really dislike gnome3 widows has more options than gnome3 it seems. funny checking the crash handler list of files I get this warning The packages containing debug information for the following application and libraries are missing: /usr/bin/plasma-desktop thanks for any help |

You need to install debugging packages (available from your distribution package manager, or from Dr Konqi if your distribution provides the correct hooks to do so) to generate a backtrace.
Have you tried logging into KDE under a new user to eliminate bad configuration files as the cause of the issue?

Try moving your .kde directory out of the way and it will create a new
one when you next log in. When it's booted and before logging into KDE, switch to terminal by pressing: Ctrl + Alt + F2 Then log in as your user, and run: mv .kde .kde-old Then logout: exit Switch back to the graphical login: Ctrl + Alt + F1 And log in. You will have to set up you KDE settings again, but it should get you going at least. |
