Kickoff Launcher opens but inactive - cursor is in search bar & cannot remove it. No icons active. Panel icons active but opened windows inactive. Have to close them with Ctrl Q. No menu appears on desktop R click. Have tried Recovery reboot but same results. Currently having to use Windows XP to get to this Forum. Would appreciate help with this crazy mess!

is this after a upgrade or new install? in other words at some point it worked but now it doesn't
does desktop mouse left or middle click do anything? can you create and login as a different user? same issues? can you close KDE and open a virtual terminal w/ Alt+Ctrl+F1 and rename your KDE directory

The previous suggestions did not work. I managed to edit Login & changed from KDE to Ubuntu. Rebooted into Ubuntu. Having problem with mouse - the pointer mooves but will not activate anything! rebooted (restore), restarted & logged into Ubuntu. Mouse works but when any windowed application is openened, mouse pointer moves freely on the desktop but won't activate anything. This is the same problem I had previously! Uninstalled all KDE programs through Synaptic. Rebooted several times (restore) & finally got into Ubuntu. Same problem exists! Am using Windows XP as I write this & the mouse works perfectly (USB Logitech Optical. Any ideas of what I might do short of reinstall??

No clue, it's not KDE & it's not Gnome (I assume thats what you mean with "changed from KDE to Ubuntu") then its something more fundamental with your install.
If you boot from the cd (assuming you installed from a live cd) does the system function? You didn't say if this was a new install or an upgrade? You could look at the graphics drivers are you sure they're correct for you graphics chip/card? As this is a *buntu issue you could ask on their forum As a last resort do a clean install |

Thanks for your reply. Think it is a "*buntu issue".
It is Unbuntu Lucid then installed KDE Desktop. Graphic drivers all OK. Will check the the *buntu issue" forum. |
