KDE 11.10 Fails to Install

Downloaded KDE Sc version 4.7.1 iso file. Created DVD boot disk. Installed on separate clean HD (excluded updates). System seems to work fine. Ran updates - updates lock at 43%. Unable to do anything. Rebooted & restarted Updates -Message "Unable to obtain package system lock. Another application is using the package system." Logged to https://kde.org/create account. Unable to type email address - keyboard inactive!!.
Repeated the complete install procedure from CD -including formatting, (excluded the extras). Exactly the same thing happened -system works fine until Updates quit at 43% as before. Sure would appreciate some help with this mess!! |

I assume you're referring to Kubuntu 11.10 and kde 4.7.1
