I've been trying to figure out for several months now how to fix my Up Arrow. I did a command (I forget what it was) but basically, I found out that it's linked to Scroll Lock. When I hit scroll lock, the light doesn't come on. I can still use the Numpad 8 with numlock off, but it isn't the same key binding and many programs and websites don't register it as anything but 8. Any help would be appreciated.

I suspect you may have enabled the keyboard layout settings, with the wrong layout selected.
Open System Settings > Input Devices > Keyboard > Layouts. Uncheck "Configure layouts".

I can't find that option. Under keyboard, I only have the options for Numlock and Keyboard repeat...

You will need to find the seperate "Keyboard layout" module in System Settings. I will note that version of KDE is very old, upgrading to KDE 4.8 is strongly advised.

I can't find either of those. I can send you a screen shot of what I do have, under both tabs (General and Advanced)

Have you tried using the inbuilt search functionality in System Settings to locate all Keyboard related modules?

Old thread, I know, but I figured I'd post my findings, as I just came across this problem after upgrading from debian squeeze to wheezy (or vice versa, I can never remember the silly dist names) which uses kde4.
I changed: System settings -> System Adm -> Startup -> Service Manager -> Keyboard Daemon (ON) and also Input Actions (Off) [although this 2nd setting may not be needed, I disabled it anyway cos I'm an old curmudgeon who does not like fancy schmancy key settings messing around with things, and prefer a minimalist system anyway ![]() Hope this helps, and at least now I'll be able to find this info in the future, as this page is 1st in google's results when searching for "kde4 debian up arrow not working" ![]() |
