I smell trouble here. Which distribution are you on? Please, try running this command from terminal:

qdbus --system org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit

Dario, I see the same behavior on two machines, one running opensuse 11.4, and the other opensuse 12.1. Both are currently configured/updated with kde 4.8 repositories but I have observed this behavior for many iterations of opensuse 11x, into 12, and throughout KDE 4x
