Unable to change user icon

Sun Apr 15, 2012 12:16 am
Running Mint 12 KDE. When I run systemsettings, select Account Details, then click on my icon (which is blank), I get the following message: Your administrator has disallowed changing your image. Of course, running systemsettings under sudo allows me only to change the root user's icon, which isn't what I want to do.

Further, when I go to systemsettings, Login Screen, Users and change the icon there, the Apply button doesn't enable, so there's no way to save it.

Any ideas?

While I am not sure which version of KDE you have - this likely needs a change in your PolicyKit settings to allow users to change their own icon.

Thanks. KDE is reporting 4.7.4, which was the standard installation distribution with Mint 12 KDE. So, how do I change the PolicyKit settings? Settings in userconfig show all privs, but this doesn't exactly seem like an exhaustive list.

Have you tried this? http://userbase.kde.org/System_Settings/Account_Details#Change_your_image
In case you are not able to edit your picture, go to Login Screen, and in the Users tab change User Image Source to "User, system" or "User".
Where 'Login screen' is a module in System Settings.

User Image Source is greyed out. Can't change it.

Additional info: Any changes made in the Login section of settings seems to not be reflected in the Account Details section. Is this image only used for the login screen? If that's the case, I'm not worried about changing it.

Start System settings as root and try again! (no longer needed from 4.9 onward)
Code: Select all
kdesu systemsettings
in krunner.

The image in the Login screen settings is indeed only used when you login, but the one in Acount details is used in other places as well. (example: kickoff application launcher)

This is a workaround to a bug that is now fixed :)

Thanks. Starting systemsettings from sudo allows me to only change the icon for root, not for me.

Sorry, I'm not explaining this all to well...

step 1: kdesu systemsettings
step 2: Go to Login Screen, and in the Users tab change User Image Source to "User, system" or "User"
step 3: quit
step 4: start systemsettings as normal user
step 5: change picture in acount details
step 6: WIN?
step 7: mark topic as solved

Nay. In step 5, I still get the same error. Going to login after getting the error (as me, not sudo'ed), I can see the change in the login screen section, but still cannot change it in account settings.
