It is so full because I have been trying to get something to work. I left that left most one open so you could see it in that mode. When I click apply it does nothing. When I go back to activities and choose Search and Launch I get a SMALL WINDOW (Run Application) that has two buttons. Run Selected and Run None. It Reads "Then activity template requests to run the following applications" but the box is empty. I cannot enter a choice in the box. I will remove some of the activities from the bar. They will not open and I will probably have to go back to quare one.

when that box* opens and asks "Run Selected" and "Run None" click either, the box should close and your chosen activity should be on the screen
*I think the box shows only on the initial launch of an activity and offers the default applications for that activity if there are ones, try the photo activity as an example as search and launch don't appear to have default apps |

I have so many in the picture because I was trying to get one to load. The only one that works is the "Photo Activity" The rest do not open the small desk top installer that says "Run Selected" "Run None" I womder if Photo is the only one installed on my PC.I hate to be such a bother but my friend that turned me on to Linux is back in the hospital, otherwise he would answer my questions. He is a candidate for a heart transplant and went back in Emory a few days ago becuase his Pic Line Port bacame infected.
How can I check what is installed. The web site we spoke of earlier comes and goes. Sorry about repeating myself. I thought I had lost an entry. Did not see it was another page.

if it shows in the activity bar then it is installed and you should be able to switch to it
you should remove some of the activities - in the upper right corner of each activity there is a circle with a square in it, clicking it will stop the activity and the circle will become an x, clicking the x will allow you to remove the activity. y |

When I go to "Create Activity" the only one that will open the Run Application window with anything in it is "Photo Activity". It will have Gwenview and Digicam choices. When I select Gwenview it wi open the photos on the desktop. When I choose any other activity from Create Activity it will open the Run Application window bot it will be Empty and will have no program to run.Do I have a path set up wrong. I appreciate the time you have spen trying to help me. Thank you and if you have any other suggestions please let me know.

if the run application window is empty I it only means that there are no default applications set for that activity, so just close it (click either button, should not matter)
are you able to select the search & launch activity and have it appear on the screen? |

When I Create Activities and Create Search and Launch I get the Search and Launch Icon, the Run installation window, and a Search and launch Icon in the upper right corner with a drop down menu of widgets, Panel, activities, ec. But they do not open anything.
I can get the Grid, Newspaper, Desktop, Desktop Groupings, and Folder view in the drop dpwn of desktop settings. When I apply any of them they do not change anything.

can you create a new user and try as that user? if not try renaming ~/.kde and restart KDE - maybe something is messed in your kde config

I tried to create a new user in Kubuntu. I created the password and then tried to log in with the new user. I was asked for the password and also the "Unix" password. Did not understand that so I went to my files and renamed .kde to .kdeback. I rebooted and lost the lower bar on my desktop. At that time I saw that Version 12.04 in Ubuntu was released. I updated to it (it took all day since I changed from Comcast (fast) to a ATT (slow)).
I still did not have the bottom bar that contains the icons for desktop, time, etc. I then went to Ubuntu and renamed .kde again. After rebooting I went to Kubuntu and I now have the desktop icons as before and the lower bar. All seems to be right and I thank you very much for your time and advice to work this out. I just like Kubuntu better than Gnome/Ubuntu. It is a better looking desktop and you have more choices. Thank you again
