I got an annoying problem with my Kubuntu Precise (I got it even before , using kde 4.8.2); Sometimes, it simply freezes totally without any clear reason... It happened two times while i was setting the brightness of my screen using the battery applet in the panel, but other two or three times when i was simply using something else, so that I don't think that this problem is connected to that applet. The keys on the case, the power one, and the wireless one, still work; but anything else, mouse, keyboard, login via ssh, is impossible. I know that the reason could be anyone, I'm simply asking where to look for reasons. I used the KSystemLog but the registers are so large and full of "error" that are no fatal.

I have a Intel integrated graphics, and use i915 driver; I have tested all my Rams and they work perfectly.

Try booting with the noapic option. That fixed the crashes for me on Precise.
