Whenever I log into the KDE, kopote starts up, yet I did't set it to run on startup nor did I have it up in my last session.

How can I prevent this from happening again in the future?

Please check using "System Monitor" (available from the second icon from the left in KRunner, itself accessible through Alt + F2), and ensure any processes similar to "kapote" are killed after closing the application.
