Hi,
I don't know whether this is the right subforum but anyway, in Kubuntu 12.04 (KDE 4.8.2), there is a problem that appears intermittently but quite often; only while desktop effects are on, menus open half way through, and you have to move the cursor over the entries for them to appear. See the image here: ![]() It's the main KDE menu, but the problem affects many app. menus too, mostly KDE apps though. I tried disabling all individual desktop effects, also tried changing from OpenGL to XRender, none worked. Any advice? Thanks... |

did this happen previously to 12.04?
if you create a new user does this happen? what theme? does changing the theme help? gpu and drivers? |

I used Kubuntu 10.04 before and no it didn't use to happen. I just tried with a new user and it doesn't happen, maybe I changed something after installation but don't know what it is. No, changing the theme won't help, it does it on every theme. GPU is ATI Radeon HD4830 and drivers are what came with Kubuntu. Thanks... |

2 things to try:
1) remove the Kmenu from the panel then add it back (just like any widget, called "application launcher menu") 2) reset your panel and desktop to the defaults, maybe something in plasma is corrupt

I tried re-adding the Kmenu, nothing changed, however it's not just the Kmenu as I said, it's almost all app menus behave this way. Maybe the only exception is firefox. I also ran the reset commands, the settings went back to default but the problem persists. Thanks... |

try renaming ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc this will reset all kwin stuff to defaults including effects
sorry, misread your post - it's early here and I only focused on "Kmenu" and thus plamsa and not kwin which is probably more relevant |

This solved the problem, I think I also found what was causing it by changing the settings one by one. It's the Fade desktop effect, when it's enabled everything is fine, but when it's disabled this problem appears immediately. So I restored my old config and just reenabled the fade effect and so far everything is ok. Thanks a lot... |
