great, now i installed gnome just for testing, then i log back onto KDE i see that KDE4 takes the same FAT gnome La Ora border.I try changing the border to oxygen, it stays the same, all of them as well.I try changing the colors to la ora orange, it stays blue off of gnome. How the hell do fix this please i hate the fat

Image

as you see the borders are still on la ora (not the prettty KDE one, the fat ugly gnome one) despite me having the settings on oxygen!

You're using Compiz, you need to switch your Compiz window decorator from Gnome to KDE to get the KDE borders.

I think "kwin --replace &" should do it (if you want to use KWin).

Aw, come on! Surely the fat borders still look better than Vista! ;)

Heh, surely kde4 can't be THAT bad...anyway, to get rid of the compiz borders do this (I assume Mandriva is using KDE 4.1.2)

Start systemsettings. In "Default applications", there should be an option to change "Window manager" (at the bottom of the list). Make sure that one says "Use the default KDE window manager (KWIN)" instead of "Compiz fusion" and press apply. You may need to logout and in again for it to take effect though.

(the kwin --replace & as earlier in the thread does the same thing but needs to be put in a script or you'll have to repeat the procedure on every login).

What you want is
Code: Select all
kde-window-decorator --replace

if you want to use Compiz with KWin decorations. You can set this in ccsm if you want. (Window Decoration plugin, "Command").

The easiest way is to use fusion-icon, which I recommend to all Compiz Fusion users.

Uhu! oO ??

So it's easier to change distro than change a single setting?
Still don't get it...

ok i had it with kde 4 and mandriva, i put ubuntu 8.1 gnome in my system, little scared of gnome at first but now i see the grass is greener on the other side.

bye bye kde/mandriva hopefully you'll get your act together by mandriva 2009 spring

sorry, its just one thing after another, widgets, then panel, then borders, then no cd burner and printer driver system.

well i decided to give KDE another chance by running kubuntu. If panel issue is gone, then i guess i throw the blame on mandriva.

Whenever I play games, I usually log out of KDE and login into a minimal environment (just an xterm in the X-server) because I really don't need anything else while playing a fullscreen game. (Just a tip)

kubuntu failed hard

just after 5 minutes of using it, i download my driver (graphic) through kubuntu, reboot, turn on graphical effects, and whola, GUI crash.did a ctrl alt backspace ( i figured something like this needs a kill) then i looked in the menu for drake3D, but none, just like i thought, there wasn't going to be a 3D reset. But i saw failsafe and tried that, but all it gave me was a black screen with giant colored numbers.Kubuntu got to say bye bye on my computer!

So far i downloaded gOS shortly after in vista, and so far i LOVE gOS, and it is the most exciting and attractive gnome desktop i seen.http://www.thinkgos.com/gos.php , the google gadgets beat the heck out out of KDE widgets in comparison.

If I remember correctly, Google gadgets will be supported in KDE 4.2.
