openSUSE 11.4, 64 bits, KDE SC 4.8.4, NO desktop effects.
If I click the logout button, the screen became black with the logout dialogue on top. Clicking on any option, the desktop came back for a moment and the logout process starts. I think that the desaturate effect used when no desktop effect are enabled is failing, giving the black screen. It used to work on KDE SC up to 4.7.x, but not on 4.8. By enabling desktop effects and turning off the logout effect there is no problem, but it seems there is no way to disable the fading effect when desktop effects are NOT enabled (and I don't want to enable desktop effects...). Any way to avoid this black screen? Thanks

If you disable KWin, does this effect still occur?

Sorry for the delay (I was without Internet connection since Thursday)
Killing kwin makes no difference.

This is a bug, and it was not fixed until recently because no one apparently reported it. It's been fixed for 4.9. For reference: http://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2 ... 2-week-28/
