Hi.
FreeBSD 9.1-PRERELEASE KDE 4.8.2 I'm trying to change kdm layout and use a themed layout. I'm aware that this feature doesn't work since I don't remember how long, and there's a workaraound with the kdesu and launching this as root. However, this way of setting up kdm doesn't work for me in 4.8.2. When I'm tryimng to install new theme (from available in KDM) I get an error: 'Unable to install new kdmrc file from /tmp/kde-root/<filename1> and new backgroundrc file from /tmp/kde-root/<filename2>' Both files do exist though. Background file is zero-length, kdmrc contains some text. Can this be fixed somehow ? May be there is a way to install these files by hand ? Thanks. |

Sure. Just download them from kde-look.org and unpack archive anywhere on your filesystem. Make sure it is readable when KDM starts up. But downloading theme is not everything. You must also tell KDM to use it. First, shut down any X server and KDM you might have running (not sure if necessary, this is precaution step). Edit file /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc (this may be /etc/kde/ instead) In section "[X-*-Greeter]" find "Theme=" key. It's value is path (without trailing slash) to directory containing theme. Save file, start KDM. You may check out my kdmrc as reference.
Best regards

Thanks, man !
But I was able to resove the issue using genkdmconf. Seems like it wasn't called during the installation. After that themed stup was applied and I was able to change themes using usual workaraound with kdesu. |

Marked as solved.
genkdmconf should be invoked during installation, you may wish to report this issue to your distribution.
