Hello,

I'm suffering this weird behavior; I've been looking for a solution and I found It happens in Ubuntu and Fedora too. K3B doesn't produce this behavior.
Is there any solution?

Regards.

Edit: This behaviour doesn't take place in KDE 4.10.1 "release 545".

Is this behavior unique to Dolphin (i.e., it doesn't occur with the device notifer plasmoid)?

I don't recall seeing this recently: which version of your distro are you using?

I'm using openSUSE tumbleweed 12.1 linux kernel:

Code: Select all
3.5.2-39-desktop

and KDE version:

Code: Select all
Qt: 4.8.2
KDE Development Platform: 4.8.4 (4.8.4) "release 7"

You may want to check whether 4.9 will fix this issue or not (but I'm not sure when 4.9 will enter Tumbleweed).

I'll do it.
Maybe It could be due to the fact that the DVD reader is sata instead of IDE, couldn't it?

I doubt it makes a difference, but I do not know enough of KDE hardware library (Solid) to confirm. In any case, in 4.9 (as far as I recall) and to-be-4.10 I don't recall seeing this issue (but admittedly, I rarely use the optical reader).

Does the following command cause this behaviour as well?
Code: Select all
solid-hardware eject /org/freedesktop/UDisks/devices/sr0

This command assumes your disc drive is called "sr0" under /dev/ however.

Both Dolphin and the Notifier use the same call as that command does (namely, to UDisks) to initiate the ejection of the disk - so this behaviour is very unusual. I'm not sure where to look from here, my guess would be possibly that maybe Dolphin/Device Notifier are trying to inspect the device when it ejects due to the state change, causing it to close again.

I've noticed that If the disc isn't mounted the command doesn't produce this behavior. However, if the disc is mounted the command does produces this behavior. :(

Unusual. Both Dolphin and the Device Notifier should unmount the device before ejecting it. In Dolphin, if you right click on the optical disk it hopefully will offer an option to unmount it before ejecting it (called Safely Remove or similar).

Yes, I make it that way. However, I'll wait for kde 4.9 tumbleweed repository and I'll post the results.
