nvidia-xconfig

Tue Oct 30, 2012 11:10 am
I have installed nvidia driver and when Configure X Server Settings is started, a message says "You do not appear to be using NVidia X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run nvidia-xconfig as root and restart the X server)

I have done that but I still can't get the monitor to display 1920x1080. What have I done wrong?

Thanks for help

daisyb@linux-1i74:~> glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8400 GS/PCIe/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 304.43
OpenGL shading language version string: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler
OpenGL extensions:

It was sorted out in the meantim, but purely by trial & error since I don't understand why XScreen kept coming up with TwinView., I only have one monitor (24"). I am trying to document the correct procedure & codes to use to install and run nvidia-xconfig so that for the future upgrades/installations, I have the steps in front of me.

Altho the XServer settings are configured, I still can't see the box where the username and space for typing in password. I just have to blindly type away, Is there any way of getting the proper logon screen displaying?

Thanks very much. Cheers

so the TwinView issue is resolved? By, in nvidia-config, changing X server display config -> configuration -> separate X screen ?

is this a new install or an upgrade? if upgrade did the login screen appear correctly earlier?

in systemsettings -> login screen -> general, you can change the screens appearance, might help

also reinstalling KDM may help

ps - probably should star a new thread for this, something like "Can't See KDM Login Dialog"
