I downloaded some folder icons from opendesktop.org and in using some of them I have ended with a strange problem that I cannot solve. This isn't a theme it is just a collection of icons that you can use for individual folders. To use one you choose a folder you have created and then right click on that folder > properities > click on icon > other icons > icons folder and choose the new icon you want to use for your new folder. I'm not sure what I did wrong but now everytime I create a new folder it is created with a Smiley face icon on it! I had tried the Smiley face icon on a folder but now it is on every new folder I create. It could be worse but I'd rather have an original folder to start with. I haven't installed any themes but this problem is happening with all the default themes I have. I am using KDE 4.9 on Linux Mint. Any idea what I can do to stop the barrage of Smiley faces invading my computer?

Try the following.
1. Go to System Settings > File Associations. 2. In the left pane select inode > directory. 3. Click the icon in the right pane and select the default "inode-directory" icon. 4. Apply the changes, log out and log in again. |

Yes it is funny really and after all my searches I couldn't come up with an answer for it. I had tried clearing some of my cache as I had come across that answer to a similar problem but it didn't work, however I didn't come across the script suggestion. So last night after I posted this I decided to just do a re-install after much frustration and now I'm back to KDE 4.8 but I'm going to keep both of your suggestions incase something like this happens again! Thank you both.
