Hi everybody,
I have been using just one keyboard layout since install (German, standard, all accepted as proposed by the Mint 13 installer). Now I'd like to try Dvorak and did the following: Under "System Settings > Input Devices > Keyboard" select the second /Layouts/ (German equiv. of "Layouts", so English term may vary) tab, check the /Set up layouts/ option, add the relevant layout. Now the switcher icon is visible at the bottom panel and clicking it does change it – but not the keyboard layout. Even worse, after some time nothing works because the system reacts as if the Alt key is stuck (behaviour of left/right clicks on windows, no keyboard entry possible, not even Alt+Ctrl+Bkspc or Alt+Ctrl+F1..12). Creating a new user and trying the same works fine, so it seems to be something about my own settings. But if not necessary, I don't want to trash all customisations made so lovingly in the past. If not necessary. Can anyone help me out? Regards Andreas |

You don't really need to trash the customization, you only need to find the offending configuration file and moving it away. I searched in my home dir but I couldn't find it (probably because I only have one layout installed).

Turns out trashing my keyboard customisations did the trick. I had my own .Xmodmap at home which conflicted with what kxkb does. Deleting it led to peace, however I need to find another way to type my quirky symbols now.
