Hello, I don't remember what I did, but now my KDE desktop looks like this:
Screenshot is here: http://i.imgur.com/kBFeS.jpg How to remove this panel under "1. Internet" ? It is showing my opened programs by usual. KDE 4.8.3 PCLinuxOS 2012

right click on the cashew (icon on the very left end of the panel) -> remove this panel

There is no cashew on the panel and there is no item in right-click menu called "remove this panel". Cashew is on the upper panel, but i don't want to remove it. |

strange - just assumed every panel had a cashew, never saw one without
try right clicking between 2 widget icons, try between the Kmenu and Lancelot ones, there should be a point directly between where the "remove this panel" option is offered. same if clicking on the left most border of the panel does this cashew-less panel function like any other panel |

There is misunderstanding
![]() I don't want to remove the below and the upper panels. There is a panel between them. On a screenshot it is where text "1. Internet". A long glossy bar. |

ahhh! - sorry, no idea what it is
I do have a question, how do you have a panel without a cashew on it's right? |

Sorry, I don't remember exactly how to do it. I think I clicked on the cashew of the upper panel and then drag something here and there. |

This is not a panel from what I understand, but the widget background and it's border (assuming you mean the glossy surface labeled "Internet" with Google Earth, Chromium, etc on it).

Looks like an activity or desktop name... Tell us which one to get a step closer to getting rid of it

Look here: http://i.imgur.com/dcTG0.jpg You can see the tight and transparent panel(widget?) with the tasks buttons. The label "1. Internet" disappeared after the Smooth Tasks was uninstalled by me (#apt-get remove kde-smooth-tasks<etc...>). Old wallpaper is gone with Smoot Tasks too ![]() Also I want to remove the bottom panel (there is a blue button labeled "PCLinuxOS K FullMonty" and a Lancelot), cause it is not so useful, and there is a bug with repainting it. |

Sorry for not replying earlier, been off for some time.
Have you locked your widgets/panels by some chance? Check by right clicking on some free space on the desktop. The rest should be self explanatory and cashews should appear.

I came across this in a search, after opening a desktop configured some time ago, and then doing 'all sorts of things' in an attempt to 'clear' it of these panels. Yes, the desktop was 'locked' but upon unlocking it what appeared was not another 'cashew' but rather the panels acquired a menu that pops-out from the side, with an 'X' at the bottom. It was clicking this 'X' that made the panel disappear. While looking for 'cashews' I a managed to wipe-out my carefully-configured bottom panel and after a moment of panic, was able to recover only by managing to open the 'Run' box and entering 'Systemback', and then selecting 'Restore User Settings'. Thankfully, it had run just moments before this episode and the bottom panel (Start menu, shortcuts, Task bar, system tray apps, clock and calendar -- did I miss anything?) came back as it was before.. After reading through all the steps to handle the OP's question, and then finding the answer only in the last post ... there has to be an easier way ... ![]()

I very much doubt it is useful to post in a thread that was last talked in in 2012, as Plasma has evolved a lot since.
Your system information mentions an outdated information about KDE 4.x which we do not support anymore, and a "KDE Platform Version 5.28.0" which doesn't tell me really what Plasma version you are using. We never released a platform version 5.28, current Plasma is 5.17.1 Please give a meaningful version number, like the one you can find in the KInfoCenter. If you are talking about the KDE Frameworks 5.28.0 release (which was used by Plasma 5.8.4), this is equally outdated as it was release in November 2016, almost 3 years ago.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

similar stuff here.
Unwanted panels with Windows10-like nonsense popped up. Can't get rid of the panels with widgets. Now the bottom panel has width of about 1/8 inch. Micro program panel. Can't make it wider. This option never worked. My suggestion, the KDE is unstable. I can change system files from ordinary user account and crash the system. A program settings selecting sound card driver can completely crash the system. The LXDE was better. LXDE served multiple years without a single glitch. |

right, no indication about your exact Plasma version and distribution, commenting "me too..." in an 8 year old thread about an obsolete version about "similar" problem, do you really want help or just complain?
