Global copy/paste shortcuts for KDE

Fri Nov 23, 2012 1:13 pm
Hello,
I'm a bit lost here. I've set my keyboard shortcuts for copy/cut/paste in System Settings -> Shortcuts and Gestures -> Global Shortcuts to Alt+W/Ctrl+W/Ctrl+Y respectively and in most apps it does apply, but some parts of different KDE applications seem to ignore that setting.
For example, Kopete does use that shortcut in chat window, but not in status message editing window. Also in any Help -> About window I can copy text with Ctrl+C, but not Alt+W.
Is it in KDE or there's something that may override or stay untouched by KDE shortcut settings that I'll have to setup separately to make those shortcuts actually global?

For QTextEdit (includes QTextBrowser and by this QLabel with selectable text) and QLineEdit one had to alter the KEySequence symbols (ie. those do not participate in the app wide QAction system) - i'm not sure whether that's possible at all (but *maybe* in the KApplication constructor)

Can it be modified to participate in the app wide QAction system? It's rather strange to have some parts of such a whole system as KDE to behave in this frustrating way.

as mentioned i don't know but unlikely from the KDE side.
the Qt feature is already platform aware (diff behavior on win/mac/kde) so you could file a bug against Qt demanding to respect the kde shortcut settings and they'll tell you whether that's possible.

In this case, it would be to request that the shortcut to bind to should be delegated to the platform integration plugin. As KDE provides a platform integration plugin for Qt to use, then it could pick the shortcut up easily enough through this mechanism.
