Hello Folks, since a couple of days, my system partition get eat up and I have found that /var/tmp/kdecache-$ME/http is growing
It is now 1.4G and there is an horrofull lot of file inside it

1) What is causing it? I have the feelling that it grows even more when skype is running..?
2) How to delete it being given that, as usual in linux, the legend says that you can do everything with your system but the reality says...

my guess is that that is something, skype or a widget, generating these and as soon as you clear the folder it generates new files. if you open a small one (some can be quite large) with kate or use the head command (if large) what appears to generate them?

Well it coulndt suddenly re-create 1.4 GB of those 1833 files in the blink of an eye can it?
Files are all very small, (~1K to ~8K)

exept for one files that is called scoreboard

you're using Rekonq and/or Konqueror for browsing? It's probably your browser cache

try clearing you cache in Rekonq/konqueror and see if that clears up most of that folder

I cleaned the cache of all of my browser (rekonq, firefox konqueror) and it looks like that it freed it up after clean the konqueror one.
Will confirm this in the future...

there should be a cache setting that can limit disk cache size in all your browsers, I assume Konq and Rekonk use the same but FF uses it's own

But it does explain however why sudo rm* didnot delete them, which is a crime against mankind on its own..

you should not need to sudo, you own the folder

try with rm -fv

rm doesn't remove directories unless you go recursive (-r).

Well since I removed them by cleaning the cash inside the software last time, I now can remove them with rm.
Very weird that it did not worked last time.

If the files keep getting regenerated this could be due to the kio_http_cache_cleaner reinstating them as it cleans the cache. In this case, I suspect it may have gone rogue, in which case killing it (or rebooting) should fix the issue.
