I'm not sure you guys have this reported, but using "folder view" (and maybe others) where you have the icons set to be unsorted if you logout and back in your icons are missing, and on the right hand side of your desktop you have a very long scrollbar. Scrolling does nothing.
Set the sort to something (anything), logout, and then back, and your icons are back in place except they are sorted. Forcing sorting of the icons on the desktop is, well, just unappreciated. |

This sounds like a bug in the restoring of icon position information.
Bug reports should be filed at bugs.kde.org however to ensure they are not lost. If you are reporting the bug, please make sure you are using KDE 4.10.

Sorry, not going to report to your bug tracking system. I'm not in need of reporting a bug, I'm in need of a solution to the bug.
As it turns out the bug is far more reaching than whether the icons are sorted. It happens with them sorted and without. The extremely long scrollbar on the right hand side is always present when the icons are missing. It is impossible to get them back without changing the alignment of the icons to be defaulted to the left side, OR a reboot (which may be required several times). Again, I'm not here to report a bug. I'm here to get help on resolving the issue. Why have forums if people can't come to them to get solutions to their problems? |

While we are able in some cases to point you towards a solution (such as an update, or changing a setting) certain issues require bug fixes being made to KDE. These are made by developers, who track bugs through the KDE Bugtracking System at bugs.kde.org.
Just wondering - where is this folder view pointed towards? Is it a remote location by any chance, and if so - is networking up before you begin to login? I suspect the changing of icon position forces the Folder View applet to refresh it's view - which in turn then gets a proper list of files. To check this theory, you could try right clicking on the Folder View and selecting "Refresh View" and see if that causes your files to show up.

The bug still exist in latest KDE and Plasma. There is something in icons arrangement, restoration or smth else.. I detected that if you delete some file from your desktop and you create new file (or copy, move, etc.) the file creates on the position of previously deleted file. And if you move some icon on last deleted file position, the new file stands onto the icon. And when I make this, after restart icons are missing with the nasty scrollbar.. The bug occurs also when I change the setting for session management. This is the most seriously and unfixed bug in KDE for 2 years ago.

Which version of KDE are you using? In regards to bug reporting - the developers aren't able to fix it if they do not know about the issue. Due to the wide variety of environments and configurations which are possible, it is impossible for developers to test everything. The bug report process is a crucial part of user feedback.
