Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."[adrian@vaio ~]$kcmshell4 khotkeyskcmshell(2520)/khotkeys: Unable to start server org.kde.khotkeys (kded module) [ "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" ]: "Did not receive a reply. Moved to Workspace forum.

Can you please check that "Input Actions" is enabled in System Settings > Startup & Shutdown > Service Manager?

thanks bcooksley. when i started service manager, i got an error "cannot connect to kded4" so i tried to run another instance of kded4 (didn't help, killed with ctrl-c), then i did a `pkill kded4` and started kded4 again and both service manager and my shortcuts started working again.

not sure why kded4 doesn't start properly on login, though...

kded is the general daemon process, some daemon plugin will "stall" it, so nothing (the plugins are not threaded and that wouldn't reliably work w/ dbus anyway ...) will respond on IPC.
If this happens, gdb into kded4 and check where it's hanging around.
