Re: Desktop Freezing

Wed Apr 24, 2013 9:35 pm
Hello,

When the computer freezes, I can only access it via ssh from another computer - so when I attempt to use

Code: Select all
kwin --replace

I receive the error:

Code: Select all
kwin: FATAL ERROR while trying to open display

The frozen computer is completely unusable if it does freeze. How can I replace another session's kwin through the ssh terminal, remotely?

Thanks!

First, to test to see if KWin is causing the issue, kill it by running this command from the terminal:
Code: Select all
killall kwin

If that frees up the system, you can use KRunner (accessible via Alt + F2) to relaunch KWin by running:
Code: Select all
kwin --replace
